Name, if you’re out about your addiction: Totally out. Breanne L. Heldman
How long have you been reading YA: Other than my third grade dalliances with “The Babysitters Club,” about 8 years.
Who are some of your “must-read-everything-they-write” authors: I really don’t like my answer for this – it paints an off-color picture of my taste level, but for work (yeah, that’s what they all say), it’s important that I stay on top of whatever Stephenie Meyer’s doing. I’ve also befriended Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl on Twitter, so I read whatever they’re publishing as a symbol of my support.
Favorite fictional boyfriend(s): Peeta is the swooniest. I love him because he’s more masculine than many of the YA heroes. He’s not without a backbone, yet he’s totally understanding. There’s also something about Ky in “Matched” that really gets my blood pumping. He’s so mysterious!
What’s the last YA book that blew you away and why? “Delirium,” by Lauren Oliver, although I have to confess that it blew me away for the wrong reasons. I was so blown away and impressed and shocked by the ending of the book… but I thought it was just a standalone novel and not a trilogy. Admittedly, my feelings about the conclusion of that novel are less amazed – albeit not disappointed – now that I know there’s more to the story.
If you could force Hollywood to adapt one YA book into a movie, which would it be? I’m pretty psyched to see a “Beautiful Creatures” movie. I think the Southern Gothic flavor added to the supernatural could be super-cool.
