I was so excited when I discovered, just the other day, that Cassandra Clare collaborated with authors Sarah Rees Brennan and Maureen Johnson to write a series of 10 short stories about warlock Magnus Bane. It seems that the plan is to release the short stories as ebooks each month and then after they have all been released separately, all the stories will be available together in one book. Here are the first three stories that have already been released (all are $2.99 on Amazon):
“What Really Happened in Peru” by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan | Buy it
Fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices know that Magnus Bane is banned from Peru—and now they can find out why. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.
There are good reasons Peru is off-limits to Magnus Bane. Follow Magnus’s Peruvian escapades as he drags his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss into trouble, learns several instruments (which he plays shockingly), dances (which he does shockingly), and disgraces his host nation by doing something unspeakable to the Nazca Lines.
This standalone e-only short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the #1 New York Times bestselling series, The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series. This story in The Bane Chronicles, What Really Happened in Peru, is written by Sarah Rees Brennan and Cassandra Clare.
“The Runaway Queen” by Cassandra Clare and Maureen Johnson | Buy it
Magnus Bane has a royal role in the French Revolution—if the angry mobs don’t spoil his spells. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.
While in France, immortal warlock Magnus Bane finds himself attempting to rescue the royal family from the horrors of the French Revolution—after being roped into this mess by a most attractive count. Naturally, the daring escape calls for invisible air balloons…

“Vampires, Scones and Edmund Herondale” by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan | Buy it
Magnus Bane leverages his alliances with Downworlders and Shadowhunters on a venture to Victorian London. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles.
When immortal warlock Magnus Bane attends preliminary peace talks between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders in Victorian London, he is charmed by two very different people: the vampire Camille Belcourt and the young Shadowhunter, Edmund Herondale. Will winning hearts mean choosing sides?

Although I haven’t had the opportunity to read any of these stories I have already bought “What Really Happened in Peru” and can’t wait to read it. The titles of the other stories that will be released throughout 2013 and end in January 2014 are:
“The Midnight Heir” (July 16)
“The Rise of the Hotel Dumort” (Aug. 20)
“Saving Raphael Santiago” (Sept. 17)
“The Fall of the Hotel Dumort” (Oct. 15)
“The Course of True Love (and First Dates)” (Nov. 19)
“What to Buy the Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway)” (Dec. 17)
“The Last Stand of the New York Institute” (Dec. 31)
I am looking forward to learning more about Magnus, who is a favorite character from both The Mortal Instruments series as well as The Infernal Devices. If you’ve already read any of the stories, what do you think so far? If you haven’t, then join me and let’s get started.
How fun! I’ve been seeing folks talk about them, but haven’t really paid much attention. I guess I thought it was a new series – like a full series, not a series of novellas. Love that it’s shorter books! Magnus was my fave in both series!
So excited! I also can’t wait for her next two series either! I’m counting down the days in anticipation for TDA which just so happens to be coming out the same month as my birthday.
