We figured what better way to start the week than to share some of our favorite quotes (or dialogue exchanges) by a host of various fictional characters. These all happen to be by some of our favorite literary crushes, but in the future, we’ll be sharing Favorite Quotes centered around a particular theme, not just fictional guys we adore. Seven days of the week, seven quotes!
“One person can’t feel all that at once, they’d explode.”
“I want to fix that in my memory forever. Draco Malfoy, the amazing bouncing ferret…”
“IF WE DIE FOR THEM, I’LL KILL YOU HARRY!”
ADAM, “Before I Die” — Jenny Downham
“I love you. It hurts more than anything ever has, but I do. So don’t you dare tell me I don’t. Don’t you ever say it again!”
JOSH BENNETT, “The Sea of Tranquility” — Katja Millay
“Just so you know,” I inform him, “one day, I’m going to get tired of sharing your affection with that coffee table and I’m going to make you choose.” “Just so you know,” he mimics me, “I would chop that table up and use it for firewood before I would ever choose anything over you.”
“I wished my mother was here tonight, which is stupid, because it’s an impossible wish.” He shrugs and turns to me, drowning the smile that cracks me every time. “It’s not stupid to want to see her again.” “It wasn’t so much that I wanted to see her again,” he says, looking at me with the depth of more than seventeen years in his eyes. “I wanted her to see you.”
JOE FONTAINE (“Bat. Bat. Bat.”), “The Sky Is Everywhere” — Jandy Nelson
“Forget what I said earlier, let’s stick with this, I might not survive anything more.” I laugh. Then he jumps up, finds my wrists, and pins them over my head.
“Yeah, right. Totally joking, I want to do everything with you, whenever you’re ready, I’m the one, promise?” He’s above me, batting and grinning like a total hooplehead.
TODD HEWITT, “Chaos Walking” Trilogy — Patrick Ness
“Here’s what I think,” I say and my voice is stronger and thoughts are coming, thoughts that trickle into my noise like whispers of truth. “I think maybe everybody falls,” I say. “I think maybe we all do. And I don’t think that’s the asking.” I pull on her arms gently to make sure she’s listening. “I think the asking is whether we get back up again.”
EVAN WALKER, “The 5th Wave” — Rick Yancey
“I had it all wrong,” he says. “Before I found you, I thought the only way to hold on was to find something to live for. It isn’t. To hold on, you have to find something you’re willing to die for.”
ADAM WILDE, “If I Stay” — Gayle Forman
“But the you who you are tonight is the same you I was in love with yesterday, the same you I’ll be in love with tomorrow.”
“I can lose you like that if I don’t lose you today. I’ll let you go. If you stay.”
