Confessions of a YA Junkie: Rachel from As Told by Rachel

Confessions of a YA Junkie
After a long hiatus, we’re finally featuring a new “Confessions of a YA Junkie.” This edition highlights the young and very talented blogger Rachel Kinnard of As Told by Rachel. We’ve corresponded with Rachel on Twitter, and we have a lot of the same interests in contemporary novels, so when we decided to kick-start this feature, we couldn’t think of a better blogger to profile.

If you’re interested in being one of our upcoming YA Junkies, just fill out this form, and we’ll be in touch!

Name, if you’re out about your addiction: Rachel

Age: 21 (but almost 22!)

What you do?: I’m a college student who will be graduating in May!

How long have you been reading YA?: Oh my… probably since I was in middle school? It’s been a REALLY long time.

Who are some of your “must-read-everything-they-write” authors?: Amy Reed, Morgan Matson, Sarah Dessen, Jessi Kirby. I’m a contemporary girl 🙂

Favorite fictional boyfriends?: Oliver from “The Statistical Probability of First Sight,” Oh and Jack from the “Everneath” series. I would do anything to have him as my real boyfriend.

Favorite kick-ass heroine?: Alanna from the “Song of the Lioness” series by Tamora Pierce. She holds a special place in my heart.

What’s the last YA book that blew you away and why?: “Personal Effects” by E.M. Kokie. It was my first book dealing with war which I was nervous about, but it was one of the most heartbreaking, intense books I have ever read. I would definitely recommend it!

Which YA books will you forever keep on your bookshelves?: “Looking for Alaska” and “Paper Towns” by John Green, “Wintergirls” and “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson, and “Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephn Chbosky. These were the books that affected me most in high school. They actually have their own special shelf in my room!

If you could force Hollywood to adapt one YA book into a movie, which would it be?: Actually, none of them. I don’t really like film adaptations.

What’s at the top of your TBR pile?: The next book I plan on reading is “The F-It List” by Julie Halpern. I’ve read nearly everything she’s written and while I haven’t loved it all, I do consider myself a fan of her books. Plus, this book sounds so fascinating!

Which literary YA couple’s love story do you think is the most swoon-worthy?: Aria and Perry from the “Through the Evernight” series by Veronica Rossi. They are my number one favorite literary couple in the entire universe.

Hooray Rachel! She’s one of my favorite bloggers, especially for contemporary books! I trust her judgement completely when it comes to that genre! 🙂
