Monday Quotes: Maggie Stiefvater Edition

June 30, 2014 by Sandie 1 Comment

So I just read “Sinner” (which comes out tomorrow) for both work (review to come) and pleasure, so I figured I would dedicate today’s edition of Monday Quotes to previous Maggie Stiefvater books. I, for one, love her obsession with cars, so I could’ve made the theme even narrower, but it’s just a quote from a bunch of her books. I’ve now read seven of them, but I know there are several more I haven’t gotten to yet, like her earliest faerie novels, her short story collaborations, and her middle-grade installment of “Spirit Animals.” What is your favorite Stiefvater novel? I’m riding a “Sinner” high (although to be honest, I thought of it as more “New Adult” than YA — not because there was graphic sex or anything, but because the characters seemed older and more “adult” than teens), but I think “Scorpio Races” is still my favorite. Ah, Sean and Puck, how I love you!

 “Sinner”

After a moment, he press his forehead against mine and I put my hands on his face and we just stayed like that, breathing each other’s breaths. It was so much us and so little him and me. Us, us, us. The opposite of lone was this.

“Shiver”

And then I opened my eyes and it was just Grace and me – nothing anywhere but Grace and me – she pressing her lips together as though she were keeping my kiss inside her, and me, holding this moment that was as fragile as a bird in my hands.

“Linger”

I couldn’t imagine anyone ever reading a book enough to make it look like that. It looked like it had been driven over by a school bus after someone had taken a bath with it.”

“Forever”

It wasn’t the sort of kiss I’d had with anyone before. This kiss was so soft it was like a memory of a kiss, so careful on my lips that it was like someone running his fingers along them. My mouth parted and stilled; it was so quiet, a whisper, not a shout. Cole’s hand touched my neck, thumb pressed into the skin next to my jaw. It wasn’t a touch that said I want more. It was a touch that said I want this.
It was all completely soundless. I didn’t think either of us was breathing. Cole sat back up, slowly, and I opened my eyes. His expression, as ever, was blank. The face he wore when something mattered.
He said “That’s how I would kiss you, if I loved you.”

“The Raven Boys”

The fact was, by the time she got to high school, being weird and proud of it was an asset. Suddenly cool, Blue could’ve happily had any number of friends. And she had tried. But the problem with being weird was that everyone else was “normal.”

 “The Dream Thieves”

The inside of the old Camaro smelled like asphalt and desire, gasoline and dreams.

“The Scorpio Races”

“I say, ‘I will not be your weakness, Sean Kendrick.’
Now he looks at me. He says, very softly, ‘It’s late for that, Puck.”

and

There are moments that you’ll remember for the rest of your life and there are moments that you think you’ll remember for the rest of your life, and it’s not often they turn out to be the same moment.
