Rogue Wave (Waterfire Saga #2) by Jennifer Donnelly & Giveaway

November 21, 2014 by Diana 6 Comments

Teen Lit Rocks is delighted to participate in a giveaway that goes along with the upcoming release of “Rogue Wave” (Waterfire Saga #2) by Jennifer Donnelly, which comes out January 6, 2015 . We are sure that fans of “Deep Blue” (Waterfire Saga #1) will be excited to once again plunge into the water with Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid. Preorder the book at: Amazon, Books-A-Million, or Barnes & Noble

Rogue Wave by Jennifer Donnelly

In this exciting sequel to DEEP BLUE, the mermaids are on an exceedingly important and dangerous quest. Their journey is testing their skills and their friendships, forcing them to grow and take on new challenges, and will alter their lives forever.

Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid, six mermaids from realms scattered throughout the seas and freshwaters, were summoned by the leader of the river witches to learn an incredible truth: the mermaids are direct descendants of the Six Who Ruled–powerful mages who once governed the lost empire of Atlantis. The ancient evil that destroyed Atlantis is stirring again, and only the mermaids can defeat it. To do so, they need to find magical talismans that belonged to the Six.

Serafina believes her talisman was buried with an old shipwreck. While researching its location, she is almost discovered by a death rider patrol led by someone familiar. . . . The pain of seeing him turned traitor is devastating.

Neela travels to Matali to warn her parents of the grave threat facing their world.  But they find her story outlandish; a sign that she needs to be confined to her chamber for rest and recovery. She escapes and travels to Kandina, where her talisman is in the possession of fearsome razormouth dragons.

As they hunt for their talismans, both Serafina and Neela find reserves of courage and cunning they didn’t know they possessed. They face down danger and death, only to endure a game-changing betrayal, as shocking as a rogue wave.

About Jennifer Donnelly:
JenniferDonnellyJennifer Donnelly is an award-winning author of both adult and young adult books, including Deep Blue, the first book in the Waterfire Saga. For adults she has written a trilogy of best-selling books that includes The Tea Rose, The Winter Rose, and The Wild Rose. Her first young adult novel, A Northern Light, received many accolades, among them the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, a Carnegie Medal in the UK, and a Michael L. Printz Honor. Her second young adult novel, Revolution, was named a Best Book of 2010 by Kirkus Reviews and School Library Journal, and the audiobook received a 2011 American Library Association Odyssey Honor. She lives in New York’s Hudson Valley.

Donnelly teased what happens in “Rogue Wave” in an interview with A Backwards Story this past summer:

Well…..our brave mermaids learn a bit more about their adversary….there’s a lovely little romantic interlude (but I’m not saying who’s involved!) and there’s a scary-wrasse shipwreck ghost, too!

The Waterfire Saga has received some wonderful reviews, and we think it’s a perfect series for early YA readers (10-12) who are looking for a clean, well-written fantasy that’s not overly saturated with heavy themes like many other books. The diverse cast of characters is a plus, and I can’t wait for Sandie’s 10-year-old daughter to read it and see what she thinks. Since she’s a fan of “The Little Mermaid,” “Aquamarine,” and “H2O,” I think she’ll love it.

And now for the giveaway: To celebrate the upcoming release of Jennifer Donnelly’s Rogue Wave, Disney Hyperion is giving you the opportunity to catch up on DEEP BLUE and prepare for your holiday parties with the Principessa colors!

One lucky winner will receive:

  • a copy of Deep Blue
  • custom Deep Blue and Rogue Wave nail polishes

I’d love to add a non-dystopian to the library for our teens!

Reading the first book was like flying in a magic world. I felt like I was actually there in the ocean leaving this adventure. it was passionating, it was just… How can I describe it? It was just marvelous, so I am exited to discover what rogue wave has to offer. Maybe more adventures, magic or new discoveries and I’m also exited to swim back in that fantastic world by reading Rogue wave.

Mermaids, simple as that. Been trying to find a good Mermaids story that has plot and all but haven’t been able to get my hands on one. This one sounds like it could and would be one that is more the just Mermaids just a story too! There’s also that word Atlantis, a place I wish I could go. Plus the names Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid are simple amazing.. also can I just say I love the cover!!

So, this is second time writing this comment so I hope it works this time. It said something like you already said that or something; any ways I said…
Mermaids, simple as that. I’ve been trying to find a good Mermaids story, one that isn’t just Mermaids but one that has plots and characters; this seems like it would be. Plus, I love stories that have to do with the underworld of the sea. I love the ocean. Can I also but say how much I love the names Serafina, Neela, Ling, Ava, Becca, and Astrid. And the cover is breath taking!

Good mermaid books are so rare, and Jennifer Donnelly’s other books are fantastic! So this is a must read.
