RED RISING is one of those trilogies you can’t stop thinking about. For days, weeks, even months afterward, the characters and events keep tucked away in your mind and your heart. You have to incessantly text friends (sorry Lauren!) or read online forums about what other fans think will happen next. You start evangelizing to your friends about why they should read the book. Yes, it’s violent, you say, but it’s got such great character development and prose, it’s still so good. I know that the books are pretty controversial, and I can see how they aren’t good from an LGBT/diversity perspective, but I have to be honest and say that didn’t bother me while I was reading the books.
Needless to say, I can’t wait until February when I can finally finish Darrow’s saga. You can read the prologue that Entertainment Weekly shared earlier this year here.
MORNING STAR by Pierce Brown
Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author. Golden Son totally changed the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level. Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star.
Born a lowly Red in the mines of Mars, Darrow lost his beloved wife to the treacherous Gold overlords. Vowing to fight for the future that his wife believed in, Darrow joins a secret revolutionary group and is remade into a Gold so that he can infiltrate the ruling class and bring them down from the inside. Now, after years of hiding amongst the Golds, Darrow is finally ready to declare open revolution and throw off the chains of oppression. Nothing in Darrow’s world has been easily won, and this final fight will be the most harrowing of all.
