The comical, fantastical, romantical, (not) entirely true story of Lady Jane Grey. In My Lady Jane, coauthors Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows have created a one-of-a-kind fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, featuring a reluctant king, an even more reluctant queen, a noble steed, and only a passing resemblance to actual history—because sometimes history needs a little help.
At sixteen, Lady Jane Grey is about to be married off to a stranger and caught up in a conspiracy to rob her cousin, King Edward, of his throne. But those trifling problems aren’t for Jane to worry about. Jane gets to be Queen of England.
My degree is in European History, and I have an especial love for the Tudors that dates back long before Jonathan Rhys Meyers put on tights. So it was with unequal parts excitement and trepidation that I started MY LADY JANE. There were so many ways the authors could mess it up. They could butcher the language, the social mores, the history itself—and boy did they ever! To uproarious effect. The fun they had writing this story bled onto the page. I read all 500+ pages in two sittings, smiling through the entire thing except when I was laughing. The characters were drawn so well, their feelings were so relatable and their history so exactly how it should have been that history nerds and novices alike will heart MY LADY JANE. Because funny.
Lady Jane Grey is my favorite British monarch! I can’t believe I didn’t know about this book! I am very excited to read it — thanks for the glowing recommendation!
