First kisses sometimes wake slumbering princesses, undo spells, and spark happily ever afters.Mine broke Bale.Seventeen-year-old Snow has spent her life locked in Whittaker Psychiatric—but she isn’t crazy. And that’s not the worst of it. Her very first kiss proves anything but innocent…when Bale, her only love, turns violent.Despite Snow knowing that Bale would never truly hurt her, he is taken away—dashing her last hope for any sort of future in the mental ward she calls home. With nowhere else to turn, Snow finds herself drawn to a strange new orderly who whispers secrets in the night about a mysterious past and a kingdom that’s hers for the taking—if only she can find her way past the iron gates to the Tree that has been haunting her dreams.Beyond the Tree lies Algid, a land far away from the real world, frozen by a ruthless king. And there too await the River Witch, a village boy named Kai, the charming thief Jagger, and a prophecy that Snow will save them all.

It was a fun evening of conversation and games, where Danielle and Kami confided they would rather be completely bald than completely hairy and would choose to eat Thanksgiving dinner every day for a year rather than run a marathon. And, a little surprising, both chose to be Witches over Robbers (read Stealing Snow to decide which you’d pick). We also got to hear about their writing processes and how Danielle’s experience writing for The Guiding Light has affected the stories she writes as an author. Hint, hint: lots of love interests for the lucky leading ladies.
Two highlights were the beautiful renderings Danielle’s fashion artist friend made of the Stealing Snow characters. And the amazing, both gorgeous and delicious, mirror and snowflake cookies made by fan Diana @fictionfood.
The setting couldn’t have been better. One More Page Books, in Arlington, VA, is a well-curated independent bookshop, whose employees are friendly bibliophiles and whose books frequently tout succinct, helpful reviews. (It reminded me a little of an old video rental place where you know which staff picks you’re likely to enjoy. Remember the Seinfeld episode about that? Where Elaine’s favorite staff picks are from a 14yo boy?) The really great thing about it is that One More Page Books is clearly invested in the community. Our event was the fourth of the day and the sixth for the week—with more planned. And even with that busy schedule, they decorated for us! If you get the chance, you should spend some time browsing their selection. You can also follow them on Twitter @justonemorepage
