Eight years ago Addie Webster was kidnapped straight out of the Governor’s Mansion. Now she’s back, escaped from her captors, returned to her family who now live in the White House. At exactly the same time a terrorist group has begun attacking Washington, D.C.. Zero Day is a engaging Tom Clancy style spy novel seen through the POVs of many characters but mainly the lens of the conflicted kidnap victim, Addie and her former bestie and possible new love interest, Darrow.
Like any good spy story everyone has secrets and everyone has motivation for their positions, loyalties and actions—both apparent and hidden. While it sometimes it pushes and stretches the line of believability, overall it’s a fun, fast-paced trip for those not inclined to the sometimes overly complex adult spy genre and who like the added layer of high school drama. As a local girl the DC references were entertaining bonus.
“Not herself? What did they expect? She’d been gone eight years. And right now, two innocent people were about to be arrested because of her. Nothing made sense anymore. Her fists were clenched so tightly her fingernails dug into her palms. She was about to open her mouth again when Darrow came walking briskly across the room, eyes trained on her. He was wearing a black tuxedo and an easy smile. The heat rose in Addie’s face. She couldn’t decide whether she was happy he was headed her way, or if she wanted to take off her shoe and throw it at him.”
